Does an electric steamer produce similar results to stovetop steaming?
Yes it does. What’s more is that the electric steamer’s built-in timer makes it easier to time your healthy recipes to protection. This allows you to produce the most flavorful & nutrient rich results while avoiding overcooking.
How do I get the best results from my steamer?
Refer to the instructions and time charts provided in the manual. Remember that times may vary according to the weight or density of the food you plan to cook. When unsure of a recipe’s timing. It’s better to steam for less time and still be able to steam some more than steam for longer overcook your food.
Also, if you're using multiple baskets at the same time, put the things that you expect to take longer at the bottom and start those off, before adding the other baskets later.
Don't pack the steamer baskets too tightly; leave as much space as possible for the steam to circulate around your food.
Uniformity is the key to good steamer cooking, so use pieces of meat or fish that are approximately the same size, and slice, dice or chop vegetables into similar-sized pieces.
Can I use seasonings?
You can add extra flavor to foods by adding fresh herbs, slices of lemon, garlic or onion underneath or on top of food in the steaming basket.
Fresh herbs from the garden will give a bright earthiness to steamed food. Be sure to place seasonings on the foods. Do not season the liquid in the steamer to avoid damaging the water heating chamber.
Alternatively, marinate the food in oils and spices for a few hours before steaming.
How do I de-scale the steamer?
In order to maintain the efficiency of the Steamer, we recommend you de-scale the appliance regularly. If the water is very hard in your area, it is recommended to de-scale the appliance after every 8 to 10 uses. Fill the water tank to the maximum level with water and vinegar in the same proportion.
Plug the appliance in and switch it on. For this procedure do not use any steamer baskets. Set the timer for 20 to 25 minutes. Once the timer is up, wait for the unit to cool down before emptying the vinegar. Rinse the water tank several times with water.
Can I make Rice & Grains in the Steamer?
Yes. If you want to steam rice, grains, or any food item that is too small to place directly in the steamer baskets, use the rice bowl.
Simply fill the rice bowl with rice, seasonings, and water in the proportion indicated on the packaging. Place the rice bowl inside the lowest steamer basket and cook for the time indicated on the packaging. You may steam other items simultaneously in the other steamer baskets if you wish.
