Why is Fagor America conducting this voluntary recall?

Upon learning of the potential problem with certain models of refrigerators manufactured between July 2006 and May 2010, we notified the appropriate federal authorities at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and we are working in full cooperation with the agency. We want our customers to be safe so we volunteered to recall the affected models and quickly make necessary repairs.

How can I tell if my refrigerator is affected by the recall?

The Fagor America models that are part of this recall can be identified by matching the model number and the serial numbers listed below:

How can I take advantage of the recall?

Call our toll free number and we will schedule a service visit as soon as possible.

What should I do if my refrigerator is an affected model?

If you have one of the affected models, contact Fagor America hotline at 888-354-4411 The operating hours should be stated as 8:00am - 5:00pm MT(mountain time).

What is the problem with my refrigerator?

While reviewing customer service issues and in conjunction with our quality control inspections we discovered that under certain conditions the control board can overheat and may pose a fire hazard.

How long is the recall repair valid?

The recall and repair of these units is open indefinitely, and free in-home repairs by Fagor America will be provided for as long as requested and needed by our valued customers.

How long will it take for me to receive the repair?

Please allow 2-3 weeks from the date you contacted us. We apologize for any inconvenience, and assure you we are working as quickly as possible to repair your product.

How long will the repair visit take?

Replacing the control card is a simple repair and should be completed in half an hour with minimal disruption.

Can I repair the product myself?

No. We urge you not to attempt to repair the product yourself. Please call us immediately for a free repair.

Did the CPSC force Fagor America to issue this recall to repair?

No, Fagor America is voluntarily announcing this recall and working in full cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), our customers and others to quickly recall the affected models to repair the defect.

Did Fagor America fully cooperate with the CPSC?

Yes, we have worked closely with federal regulatory officials (CPSC) throughout this process. Our effort here is to reach all consumers with the affected refrigerators.

How many Fagor units are part of this recall?

Approximately 1400 Fagor refrigerators.

Does this mean that Fagor products are not safe?

Not at all. Fagor is committed to upholding the highest standards of quality craftsmanship and reliability in all of our products. In fact, our discovery of these issues is testimony to our commitment to stringent testing and quality analysis. We are committed to the safety of our customers. To insure their safety, we are voluntarily recalling and repairing these affected units and working with federal authorities throughout the process.

Don’t all refrigerators have to get safety checks first, and safety certified?

All Fagor refrigerators are certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to ensure both safety and quality.

Is the affected component being used with other products?

No. This control card has only been used on the specific products announced in this recall. No other Fagor models or products contain the affected component.

What measures is Fagor taking to avoid damages?

Fagor is offering to repair all affected products free of charge. Fagor will obtain customer information through distributors, retailers, and through a public announcement.
